Tune In: Megaphone Platform Now Offers Broadcast-to-Podcast Tech

Radio listening has been gradually shifting from over-the-air to streaming as consumers increasingly tune in via their digital devices. From 2019 to 2022, time spent listening to broadcast radio online grew by 50%.* Just as with TV, busy consumers want to listen to their favorite audio content on their own schedule, which in part explains the tremendous growth of the podcast industry. This represents a huge opportunity for broadcasters, who already have a deep catalog of premium content, but lack the tools to easily convert it to an on-demand podcast. 

That’s why we’re excited to announce the launch of our broadcast-to-podcast technology, an automated end-to-end solution allowing publishers to effortlessly produce podcasts from previously broadcasted radio content. Available to all Megaphone enterprise partners globally starting today, this technology connects broadcast publishers with previously hard-to-reach audiences, especially Gen Z, who prefer to get their news through digital channels like podcasts.** In providing access to new audiences, broadcast-to-podcast opens an additional avenue for monetization. With podcast ad spending projected to hit nearly $2.2 billion in 2023***, this represents a huge revenue opportunity for broadcast publishers.

Broadcast-to-podcast is already used by some of the world’s largest publishers, who chose Megaphone because it was built specifically to optimize podcast performance, eliminating the need to rely on tools built for radio. After a simple, one-time setup process, broadcast-to-podcast automatically creates new podcast episodes from previously broadcasted content. Ad marker locations are automatically identified and users have the flexibility to either replace or remove the identified ad locations based on their placement in the broadcast stream. This gives users the ability to dynamically re-insert new ads for additional monetization or replace old ad locations with other content. Publishers can also take this opportunity to tap into Megaphone’s best-in-market monetization tools, including the Spotify Audience Network, which helps publishers monetize unsold inventory.
