Netflix’s New Podcast Series For Kids Will Help With Sleep - Netflix Tudum
- Move over, Mom: Ada Twist, Scientist has story time covered.By Casey SugliaJan. 24, 2022
Getting your kids to sleep is never really just, well, getting them to sleep. There’s always a monster that needs to be chased out from the closet, another glass of water to drink and just one more story to read. But what if bedtime routine had a little extra help? Enter Bedtime Stories with Netflix Jr., a podcast made to help kids drift off to sleep alongside characters from their favorite streaming series.
Dr. Tina Bryson, childhood development expert and co-author of The Whole-Brain Child, helped develop each episode with the goal of helping parents with a bedtime routine for their children — one that will not only help them go to sleep, but also encourage them to build necessary skills for the future. While bedtime can normally be stressful for both parents and children, this podcast series will help it become “a great part of the day,” Dr. Bryson says, thanks to the eight inaugural episodes featuring characters from shows like Ada Twist, Scientist and Go! Go! Cory Carson.
“I love how these episodes intentionally balance familiarity (with the child’s beloved characters) and novelty (with a new, but not-too-exciting story of adventure that allows kids to learn something),” Dr. Bryson tells Tudum. “I found this project meaningful, knowing it will help parents and kids daily in an immediate, practical way, while also giving kids experiences that build skills, empower them, and help them learn about themselves and the world.”
The first collection of stories, which are out now, run about 10 to 15 minutes each and incorporate themes like getting ready for bed and the importance of sleep. The episodes include:
Episode 1: “Why Do We Need Sleep?” featuring characters from StoryBots. The super helpful Storybots explore why everyone needs to sleep and how it is so much more fun than staying awake.
Episode 2: “Mystery Before Sleeptime,” featuring characters from Chip and Potato. Chip and Potato go on an adventure to find a missing jewel before going to sleep.
Episode 3: “Lobo’s First Sleepover,” featuring characters from Super Monsters. Lobo is having his first sleepover with Frankie, but just needs a little bit of help when it comes to winding down for bed and quieting his mind to go to sleep.
Episode 4: “Calm in the Storm,” featuring characters from StarBeam. StarBeam is determined to get a good night’s sleep and calm Miserable Marla down — Marla is keeping everyone awake with her storming.
Episode 5: “Tooth Fairy Bells,” featuring characters from Ada Twist, Scientist. When Ada Twist loses a tooth, she, along with The Questioneers, develop a plan to meet the tooth fairy.
Episode 6: “Dino-Night Rescue,” featuring characters from Ridley Jones. Dante can’t fall asleep without his favorite stuffed animal, but unfortunately it’s lost. Ridley and Dudley help Dante find his favorite stuffy just in time for him to get comfortable before falling asleep.
Episode 7: “Tire(d) Swing,” featuring characters from Trash Truck. Hank and friends must chase down their tire swing after it rolls down a hill. This gets them just a little tired — get it?
Episode 8: “Where’s My Yawn?” featuring characters from Go! Go! Cory Carson. When Freddie accidentally “catches” Cory’s yawn, the two must team up to get it back before bedtime.
This podcast series is available to download right now, wherever you get your favorite podcasts. You can also find companion videos to these podcast episodes on the Netflix Jr. YouTube channel.
