• The Podcast Academy has announced its newly-elected members of the Board of Governors. They are: Chirag Desai (Founder, Amaeya Media); Steve Wilson (Chief Strategy, QCODE); Valentina Kaledina (Director of Business Development, Castbox); Ami Thakkar (Host, Tuckered Out), Ilana Susnow (Head of Marketing and Audience Development, PodcastOne); Daniel J Lewis (Host, The Audacity to Podcast and founder, My Podcast Reviews); Martha Little (Editor, Audible); and Becky Celestina (Content Partnerships, Acast). • Acast emailed us to highlight new research on podcast ads. The research suggests that advertisers shouldn’t just reuse their radio creative; though the data points to less than a 10% difference in performance.

• Spotify says that they’ll continue losing money from their podcast acquisitions in 2022, but podcasting should begin to make profit at a time “not too far away”.

  • From Monday, Spotify’s Megaphone will no longer deliver podcasts to listeners in Russia.

• Rent Free Media is a free software platform not unlike Patreon, Substack, BuyMeACoffee or similar services. Integrated with Stripe, the code is open on Github. It’s in-use on DubiousPod.

• Forever Dog Productions has launched a new podcast network for gen-z women.

• What Are You Watching? with Chris Mancini has joined CompanionCast, a podcast network for TV companion shows.

• Wisdom, a social audio-powered mentorship platform, has launched a new version including access for Android users. You can claim your podcast on the platform too.

• Podchaser has launched an API for sponsors and ad spends. “Simply search Podchaser for one of the top 5,000 podcasts or their episodes to find what brands have sponsored that show in the past”.

• The subject of the Teacher’s Pet podcast, Chris Dawson, will stand trial for alleged murder next month, after losing an appeal. He has pleaded not guilty.

• The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast is to go on a UK and Ireland tour. The show was named podcast of the year by the Football Supporters’ Association.
