Lady Detective Audio Drama is “A Cult Thriller Waiting to Happen”

Press Release ·

This article is at least a year old

My esteemed colleague, Prizrak, told me that hearing voices - this seeing dead people - doesn’t have to mean that I’m crazy. That actually, it might make my story “pretty much a cult classic waiting to happen.” I think they’re crazy, but nevertheless here I am, working as a so-called “information broker” in New York City.

Now a big shot real estate developer wants me to look into his sister’s mysterious death. And the deeper I get into the investigation of Sahar’s death, the more real the ghosts feel. As real to me as Prizrak is, who mostly exists as the voice on the other end of a phone, helping me dig up the dirt. And Sahar? How do you investigate a murder when you’re haunted by the victim?

This… “gift,” as some insist on calling it… It’s something I’ve been able to do since I was a child. Ghosts stalk me in the streets demanding my attention, sit next to me on the subway asking for my help, linger in the dark corners of my apartment keeping me awake at night like circling vultures. For years, I’ve tried to ignore them or drown them out, but this new case is changing that.

I suppose time will bring more answers. As long as I don’t wind up dead too.

I wonder, if that happens, will anyone be able to hear me?

The ten episode, neo-noir supernatural audio drama CITY OF GHOSTS premieres with its first two episodes on October 12th, 2021, with new episodes releasing every Tuesday until December. The series, featuring an immersive urban soundscape and a moody synth soundtrack, was created and written by fiction author Carina Green and filmmaker Ryan Patch, directed by Patch, and produced by Joanne Vo. The trailer is available now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and all other major podcast players.

CITY OF GHOSTS is a supernatural neo-noir that follows El Rivkin (Brigette Lundy-Paine), a queer information broker who makes a living collecting and selling the dirty secrets of New York’s elite, assisted by her business partner and only friend, the agoraphobic internet whiz Prizrak (Moises Arias). After they are hired to investigate a journalist’s murder, El begins to untangle a web that takes her from a burned-down apartment building to the highest levels of New York society - a world her sister Talia (Erin Darke) is marrying into, as she weds the old-moneyed James Chapman (James Scully).

The deeper she presses into the investigation, the more she is forced to confront her own history of trauma and mental illness. What if the ghosts that hover in the corners of her apartment aren’t mere figments of her imagination? The answer to that question will alter the course of El’s life forever, especially as one voice rises above all the others: Sahar (Golshifteh Farahani), the murdered journalist herself.

STARRING: Brigette Lundy-Paine (“Atypical”, “Bill & Ted Face The Music”), Moises Arias (“Hannah Montana”, “The Jockey”), Erin Darke (“Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, “Good Girls Revolt”) , Rich Sommer (“Mad Men”), Kevin Pollak (“A Few Good Men”, “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Navid Nagaban (“Homeland”, “Aladdin”), and Golshifteh Farahani (“Invasion”, “Extraction”, “Body of Lies”).
