DIRECTOR OF MARKETING (REMOTE)
The Locked On Podcast Network was founded in 2016 (acquired by TEGNA in 2021). Since inception, we have proudly been an innovator and digital media pioneer. We were one of the first podcast networks to focus exclusively on short-form, daily podcasts that are now the industry standard. We created the local team podcast model that is now a leading industry segment. And, we have launched some of the most popular sports podcasts in the country. Today, Locked On produces 180+ podcast shows for audio and video, providing in-depth coverage of every NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL team plus most major college sports teams. We also publish industry-leading, league-wide daily podcasts for fantasy sports, sports betting, league drafts, and more. Currently, we publish more than 700 podcast episodes each week for audio and video that generate an audience of nearly 12 million listeners and viewers a month. And the innovation continues as we venture further into new video content for YouTube, OTT, and other platforms to reach new audiences and expand our programming footprint.
Locked On is looking for its first-ever Director of Marketing to help lead our growth forward. We are looking for a digital marketing leader, that also has a strong understanding of media, brand marketing, and marketing communications. This is a general marketing role, but our ideal candidate will also be a hands-on growth marketing dynamo that will drive not just strategy, but also tactical execution. While this is primarily a consumer marketing role, you will also have a hand in working with our sales team on B2B marketing to the broader advertising community, as well as with TEGNA corporate communications on related marketing communications objectives. This position is part art and part science.
As our Director of Marketing, you will be responsible for:
- Driving new listener and viewer acquisition strategy across podcast and video platforms
- Managing aspects of our audience retention and expansion strategies
- Expanding brand reach and awareness among target consumers and advertiser markets
- Managing websites and partnering with the social media team on key aspects of our social media marketing strategy
- Maximizing marketing opportunities with intracompany and intercompany partners
- Planning and executing product launches for new podcasts shows, expansion into digital video, and our broader OTT platform rollout
- Managing and effectively deploying content and performance marketing budgets to hit goals
- Working with our sales team on marketing materials and broader B2B industry marketing outreach
- Collaborating on, and in some cases leading, research projects
- Identifying PR opportunities and working with TEGNA corporate communications on related strategy and outreach
Desired skills and experience for this position include:
- Progressive general marketing experience that includes both growth and brand marketing
- Successful track record leading digital marketing through performance marketing and user acquisition marketing
- An analytical mindset versed in using data to drive marketing strategy and efficiencies
- A background marketing, creating, or distributing digital media content such as podcasts, YouTube videos, mobile or OTT apps
- Experience working with PR agencies and/or PR teams
- Experience working with digital marketing agencies is also beneficial
- A strong understanding of how to build a leading consumer brand and how to create resonating consumer value propositions
- Experience directing graphic designers on websites, advertising, and marketing projects
- Someone who is not afraid to get their hands dirty doing the work (and having fun in the process)
- Perseverance and creativity to innovate, solve problems, and do more with the available resources
- A collaborative, team player who also knows how and when to move forward and get the job done
- Copywriting skills a plus
- A love of sports is a major plus
