Apple Podcasts transcription search is now live

• Apple Podcasts appear to have turned on transcript search in their beta podcast apps. A search for “Google Pixel” appears to return a bunch of podcasts that have mentioned the device (albeit mainly in ad copy). Daniel J Lewis says that transcription search has been available for a while for select shows, but that they may have enabled it for many more.

• After Conan O’Brien’s cover story on Variety claiming the TV host was “driving the podcast revolution”, it was perhaps unfortunate that the next guest on his TV show would be… Marc Maron. And he wasn’t happy.

• An anonymous Twitter user has posted allegations that True Crime Brewery may have been lifting details of crimes from other websites. It’s the second allegation of true crime podcast plagiarism this week. Meanwhile, Xanthe Mallett, a Forensic Criminologist for the University of Newcastle in Australia, claims that true crime podcasts are “glamorising violent offenders” and that they should stop.

• iHeartMedia’s earnings call was last week. Bob Pittman highlighted iHeartRadio’s promotional power, noting that “Disgraceland went from 100,000 downloads in the last month it was published on its former platform to two million” once it had moved to iHeart.

• The London Podcast Festival is adding an audio fiction cluster in their “Maker’s Weekend”. The event is in September. Bustle posts a 20%-off code.

• The Columbian newspaper El Tiempo has launched a daily news podcast with Spotify Studios. The podcast is called El Primer Café, and joins a similar collaboration in January with Spotify and Folha de S.Paulo, called Café da Manhã. Both are Spotify-exclusive; as is the new season of Who We Be Talks, a podcast with sportswear brand Puma exploring street culture.

• Sometimes we forget to be grateful for our amazing podcast guests, says Pacific Content’s Steve Pratt, highlighting what Facebook gives theirs.

• CBC/Radio-Canada have signed with Triton Digital to help monetise and measure their podcasts. Meanwhile, streaming company Mediastream has been selected by Adswizz as a premier partner in Latin America.

• The Argentine website TN and Wetoker have launched TN Podcast, a network of podcasts from the country.

• At Podcast Movement this year was TechCrunch, who write their five takeaways from the event.

• A new app for iOS, Tapebook, has launched. “A social network for conversations”, it’s for “people who have always wanted to start a podcast or record an interesting conversation with a friend”.

• Podcast making tool Alitu has released a brand new 'teaser clip’ feature, which automatically assembles a short teaser clip with no formal editing required.

• A #1 Australian podcaster, Dan McHugh, is to teach a new podcasting course in Sydney NSW, Australia - either via real-time online lessons or in person. The company running it is called ILKI.
