Salary range: £21,000 to £23,000 (yearly rate) - subject to experience

We’re looking for a keen, smart graduate, first or second jobber to join as an Assistant Producer to work on our leading independent politics podcasts, including but not limited to the weekly panel show OH GOD, WHAT NOW? (formerly Remainiacs) and THE BUNKER, a daily mix of one-to-one interviews and explainers with its own weekly panel edition.

You will be an energetic, open-minded individual who wants to work in a fast-paced environment and on a plethora of tasks; who is progressive but not dogmatic or closed off to ideas they may not agree with; who is politically aware but more importantly, has a desire to learn more; and is ready to roll their sleeves up and work hard to make the best show possible, day-in, day-out.

The assistant producer will play an integral role in boosting and maintaining the quality of our podcasts, with an opportunity to be involved at each stage of the process.

What you’ll do:

Research on show topics; this can range from foreign trade agreements to flying cars; Northern Ireland to the end of restaurants. Idea generation — we are constantly looking to expand the scope of our content and are open to new original ideas for episodes for existing podcasts or new shows entirely. Reporting — as we expand, data is key to ensuring we track, maintain and build upon our successes. The assistant producer will play a key role in tracking these numbers to help us understand our direction of travel. Guest research – in a sea of speakers, root out the interesting experts who can make any topic exciting. Ensure we run a tight diary and we have the guests we need for every show. Guest booking — confirming slots with guests and presenters to ensure we have everyone prepped and on hand for recordings. Help to plan scripts and structure narratives for episodes. Write exciting and engaging episode summaries, titles and blurbs to make us unmissable in the cramped environment of podcast apps and guide windows Be involved with the social media promotion of the shows alongside the social team. Proof listen to all shows to ensure mistakes are caught and inaccuracies of flagged to the producers. Work closely with a team of three producers and lead producer, occasionally helping to fill on tasks outside of your immediate role. Take on producing client work to ensure that they experience Podmasters’ best practises and we are able to deliver the best podcasts to meet their objectives.

Your experience:

Preferred background interest in factual journalism – it can be a university degree or a deep passion of yours. (audio experience not essential). Strong and demonstrable interest in politics and culture (and of course, podcasts). Must be comfortable in intense and fast-moving environments, and able to react quickly to ever-changing schedules and guest bookings. Organised and unflappable. A lateral thinker who can find ways to achieve the impossible.
