Audio-Technica’s New Professional Podcasting Mic Is So Affordable

This article is more than 2 years old.

Audio-Technica, one of my favorite microphone brands, is introducing a new dynamic microphone. The AT2040 Hypercardioid Dynamic Podcast Microphone takes its cues from Audio-Technica’s renowned BP40 professional broadcast microphone, the new AT2040 dynamic microphone is designed for pro-quality sound and has an all-metal construction. This is an ideal microphone for podcasters and content creators thanks to its accessible price.

The AT2040 is highly directional and uses a precision-made hyper-cardioid pickup that keeps the sound focused on the user’s voice and helps to minimize unwanted room noise when recording or live streaming in a room that has less-than-ideal acoustics. To further reduce any unwanted noise, the AT2040 has a specially designed integrated shock mount that dampens knocks and vibrations that might be transmitted through a mic stand, boom or mount.

Additionally, the AT2040 has a multistage windscreen that combines a non-woven filter with foam mesh to provide effective internal pop filtering, enabling close-up use while maintaining exceptional clarity and banishing annoying plosives.

Unlike a lot of podcast microphones, the AT2040 uses an XLR connector for robustness and versatility. The XLR connector can hook up to a variety of soundcards and audio interfaces with a conventional analog microphone input. This provides easy pairing with everything from home studio computer interfaces to professional mixing consoles.

The rugged, all-metal construction and a sonic signature built of the AT2040 is a culmination of Audio-Technica’s six decades of audio expertise.

The AT2040 offers professional performance at an affordable price and includes a pivoting stand mount, 5/8"-27 to 3/8"-16 threaded adapter, plus a soft protective pouch.

Pricing and Availability: The Audio-Technica AT2040 will be available from July 29, 2021, and costs just $99 / £89 / €99.
