Salary range: £47,000 to £52,000 (yearly rate) - subject to experience

The global market for podcasting is booming and Novel produces premium original podcasts, as well as award-winning content for leading broadcast networks and platforms, including the BBC, iHeartRadio, Wondery, Audible and Spotify.
Whilst investigative and narrative documentary story-telling are firmly in our DNA, Novel also develops and produces shows in comedy, politics, sport and scripted.
Novel works with top-tier brands and IP owners such as Google & The Premier League who appreciate our abilities to create innovative branded podcasts that people actually want to listen to.
With great development and IP at the centre of the business, our ideas are increasingly migrating to TV, film and publishing, with numerous projects in development.
The company has grown from 4 to 24 staff in 18 months, with growth underwritten by a large number of deals, primarily from the USA. Represented by United Talent Agency, and with an incredibly rich slate of shows, Novel has cemented itself as the UK’s biggest independent podcasting business, with an ever expanding number of commissions and significant relationships with US podcasting companies.
OVERVIEW
Novel is seeking a Head of Communications to help grow the Novel brand and reputation, as well as successfully promoting the launch of its new slate of shows. We are looking for an experienced communications professional hungry to take a step up into this newly created role to lead on both corporate and consumer communication and PR for this respected and award winning company.
Working closely with senior management, the successful candidate will devise and implement Novel’s communications strategy and plans, whilst also delivering a range of activities that support Novel’s corporate and content development strategy. You will be responsible for the management and spend of communications budget and work with a, to be appointed, PR agency or publicist.
This is a broad communications role and the successful candidate will have an impressive record of achievement in the field of communications within the broader creative industries with front line communications and media experience, covering proactive strategic as well as tactical planning. You will be as happy writing press releases for show launches as considering how best to develop Novel’s corporate reputation to aid future growth. You will have experience of both corporate and consumer communications and a real interest in the podcasting market. Knowledge of the US media market and outlets would be ideal.
This will be a highly autonomous role, perfect for a self-starter excited by the prospect of working in a highly creative and entrepreneurial environment, in a buoyant, fast growing sector.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop the communications strategy to deliver both external and internal plans that align to the overall business objectives.
- Determine communication channels, priority messages and themes.
- Establish strong relationships with national business and trade press in the UK and US (which is a big priority), promoting the business and its shows to enhance company image and reputation.
- Work closely with partners on shows launched with them.
- Continually evaluate the comms approach and devise strategies to cut through via profile pieces, thought leadership pieces, event speaking opportunities etc
- Manage the awards calendar, write entries and manage submissions.
- Oversee social media strategy and output (Twitter, Linkedin)
- Line manage a marketing & comms assistant (TBC)

- Excellent understanding of social media channels
- Excellent organisation skills and ability to prioritise a large amount of tasks in an effective way
- Working knowledge of some or all of the following: G Suite, Powerpoint/Keynote, Google Analytics, Twitter, LinkedIn, Asana
- Podcast industry knowledge and media contacts an advantage
- Knowledge of the US media landscape and outlets an advantage
- Minimum of 6 years experience in the creative industries, ideally at a media company, publisher or agency
