Novel produces premium original podcasts, as well as award winning content for leading broadcast networks and platforms, including the BBC, iHeartRadio, Wondery, Audible and Spotify.
Whilst investigative and narrative documentary storytelling are firmly in our DNA, Novel also develops and produces shows spanning comedy, politics, sport and scripted.
With IP always at the centre of what we do, our ideas are increasingly migrating to TV, film and publishing, with numerous projects in development.

OVERVIEW

Are you interested in working with like-minded, ambitious, driven people in creating premium-quality, mind-blowing, ear-catching, tell-all-your-friends-to-listen-to-this audio? Are you wanting to push the boundaries of what is possible in audio story-telling?
We here at Novel are looking for a new member of our post production team to help deliver razor sharp voice editing, mixing and sound design across our output. We aim high: we love sonically ambitious programmes like QCODEs Soft Voice, BBC Sounds The Skewer, Wondery’s Jacked and Radiolab.
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and ambitious, will have a superb ear for speech editing and processing, and will be able to work very efficiently to a very high standard. They will have a detailed understanding of mixing audio. They will have a musical ear and an understanding of music as a tool for underscoring the narrative journey through a series.
Novel work in Reaper and Cubase for post, experience in either/both is desirable. Experience in iZotope RX for audio cleanup and restoration is a significant bonus.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for and an understanding of what it takes to deliver high quality sound in everything from playful chat formats to powerful longform narrative stories in audio. A proven track record in delivering premium sounding, high quality work for leading broadcasters/networks/platforms is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sound design
- Speech editing
- Music mixing
- Cleanup of speech recordings in iZotope RX
- Delivery of broadcast ready mixes
- Assisting Novel’s senior sound designer
- Assisting in the curation of library music playlists for productions
- Assisting producers for remote interview recordings
- Audio editing to an exceptionally high standard
ADDITIONAL SKILLS & PERSON SPECIFICATION
- At least 3 years experience in audio post-production
- A track record of producing broadcast ready mixes
- Excellent audio editor
- Skilled mixer
- Experience navigating music libraries
- Experience in scoring pieces using library cues and stems
- An expert practical knowledge of DAWs like Reaper and Cubase
- Passionate about podcasting and creative audio production with wide ranging listening habits
- A natural multitasker
- Confidence with audio file organization
- Great communicator with junior staff, senior management, clients, interviewees and talent alike
- Creative thinker, capable of developing progressive approaches to familiar topics
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise
- A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail – everything we deliver is at a premium level
- Proficient user of G-Suite and Slack
