Executive Producer
A full time Executive Producer position
Fully remote: working with a USA-based team at Freakonomics.
At the Freakonomics Radio Network, we tell stories that explore the hidden side of everything. Our long-running flagship podcast Freakonomics Radio is one of the most popular podcasts in the world, with 10+ million downloads per month and weekly broadcasts on hundreds of public radio stations. With newer shows like No Stupid Questions, Freakonomics M.D., and People I (Mostly) Admire, we’re expanding our universe to cover many more topics for the next generation of curious listeners.
We’re looking for a talented executive producer to join our team to help us manage our growing network and spearhead our efforts to develop new and exciting shows. The EP will bring both managerial and editorial expertise to FRN, leading and developing a growing staff as much as helping shape the sound and structure of our podcasts. Working alongside the executive producer of Freakonomics Radio and our chief operating officer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of the company and its ever larger portfolio of hit shows. You should be well-versed in the rapidly evolving world of podcasts and spoken-word audio, a deep network of talent and production contacts, and an insatiable desire to make amazing new shows that reach millions of listeners.
Specifically, as Executive Producer, you will:
- Be responsible for all aspects of FRN’s new shows, managing production and providing editorial direction
- Manage a growing team of producers and editors, recruiting and staffing the best possible talent for each show
- Create and work within production budgets and schedules
- Develop new show concepts and ideas, and create a pipeline of opportunities, ideas and talent
- Build and maintain relationships with hosts and other key talent
- Design and implement editorial and production processes to help efficiently scale the network
Our ideal candidate:
- Has 10-15 years of increasingly senior production and editorial experience; direct experience in narrative or news-driven podcasting and spoken-word audio is strongly preferred, but similar experience in film / video is acceptable
- Has launched and managed successful new shows and series
- Can provide thoughtful and well-structured editorial feedback to producers and hosts to make sure the network’s shows meet Freakonomics’ high standards of quality
- Has a track record of hiring and managing a team of top-tier producers and editors
- Understands the Freakonomics brand and mission and can develop projects that fluidly extend it to new audiences and new concepts
- Demonstrates a firm grasp of the logistical and financial aspects of audio production
- Is a mentor and role model for junior production staff
- Can manage a variety of complex projects, effectively prioritize among them, and create processes and structures to support project execution
- Communicates exceptionally well verbally and in writing
This role is centered in New York City, but can be remote for well-qualified candidates. FRN offers a competitive compensation package, including full benefits and a generous time off policy.
