DIRECTOR OF TALENT SCOUTING & DEVELOPMENT (REMOTE)
The Locked On Podcast Network was founded in 2016 (acquired by TEGNA in 2021). Since inception, we have proudly been an innovator and digital media pioneer. We were one of the first podcast networks to focus exclusively on short-form, daily podcasts that are now the industry standard. We created the local team podcast model that is now a leading industry segment. And we have launched some of the most popular sports podcasts in the country. Today, Locked On produces 180+ podcast shows for audio and video, providing in-depth coverage of every NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL team plus most major college sports teams. We also publish industry-leading, league-wide daily podcasts for fantasy sports, sports betting, league drafts, and more. Currently, we publish more than 700 podcast episodes each week for audio and video that generate an audience of nearly 12 million listeners and viewers a month. And the innovation continues as we venture further into new video content for YouTube, OTT, and other platforms to reach new audiences and expand our programming footprint.
Locked On is looking for a Director of Talent Scouting & Development to help us discover and develop the next generation of sports talk talent. We are looking for a sports media expert who closely follows the media landscape in all forms including radio, podcasts, YouTube, and other digital and social media platforms. In this role, you will help us fill existing shows and new shows in the pipeline with both established sports media talent as well as up-and-coming talent for team podcasts, league podcasts, fantasy and betting shows, as well as new podcast concepts in development. You will also work with our team of programming managers to optimize our existing lineup of audio and video podcasts.
As our Director of Talent Scouting & Development, you will:
- Discover and identify sports talk personalities, anchors, hosts, and analysts to fill roles on existing and new audio and video podcasts
- Hire new talent to fill open roles, add personalities to existing shows, and launch new show concepts
- Contribute in or leading negotiations with hosts, anchors, sports insiders, and other talent
- Work with other managers in the company to identify the right talent for open positions
- Work with other programming executives in the company to develop new show concepts
- Collaborate with talent managers in the company to optimize our existing lineup of hosts and personalities to achieve the best results for our audio and video podcasts
Desired skills and experience for this position include:
- Experience in sports media programming, production, talent management, or content development
- Successful track record of finding and developing existing and new personalities, anchors, hosts, expert insiders, or social media stars
- A keen eye and ear for finding yet to be developed talent with great potential
- An out-of-box thinker able to find new talent in conventional and unconventional ways
- Strong sports media relationships
- A collaborative team player who also knows when to move forward and get the job done
- Great people skills
- Experience negotiating talent agreements a plus
